For the best careers
in physics
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Rice University
expects to have a tenure-track junior faculty position available in
Solar Physics starting July 1, 2010 and invites applications from all
qualified applicants. The successful candidate’s research program
should complement current research in solar physics and related fields
at Rice, particularly in the areas of space physics and astrophysics
(see physics.rice.edu for information on current research programs).
The successful candidate is expected to participate actively and
effectively in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, have
a strong record of published research, obtain external funding, and
develop a nationally recognized research program. Applicants should
send a dossier that includes a curriculum vitae, a brief description of
proposed research and teaching interests, a list of publications, and
arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be sent to David
Alexander, Chair, Faculty Search Committee, c/o Valerie Call, Dept.
of Physics and Astronomy – MS 61, Rice University, 6100 Main
Street, Houston, TX 77005 or by email to vcall@rice.edu with subject
line “Solar Physics”. Applications will be accepted until the position
is filled, but only those received by December 9, 2009 will be assured
of full consideration. Rice University is an affirmative action/equal
opportunity employer; women and underrepresented minorities are
strongly encouraged to apply.
Faculty of Engineering & Physical Sciences
Advanced Technology Institute
Lectureship in Chemical
Synthesis of Functional
Nanomaterials
Up to £ 43,622 per annum
(subject to experience and qualifications)
The Advanced Technology Institute (ATI) is a multi-disciplinary
institute that focuses on functional materials and devices.
The Photonics Group is devoted to the experimental investigation
of the physics of interactions between light and matter in novel
structures and materials, and the control of these interactions
for useful optoelectronics. Areas of interest currently include
femtosecond spectroscopy, semiconductor lasers, spintronics,
waveguides, meta-materials, optical sensors, and organic solar cells.
You should have a strong track record of synthesis or growth
of nanomaterials and have an interest in their applications in
photonics. The ATI houses a sophisticated suite of physical chemistry
and chemical physics tools complementing the cleanrooms, optical
and electrical facilities, so the post would suit someone with
interests in surfaces.
For the best careers in physics
The position is integral to the recently formed South-East Physics
Network (SEPnet), a regional alliance of universities in the southeast
of England. You will be able to benefit from a range of regional
opportunities and be expected to foster research collaborations
with partner universities.
Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Ben Murdin by
e-mail: b.murdin@surrey.ac.uk
On application for the post, please include a CV and a
two-page outline for a research grant proposal, suitable
for submission to a UK Research Council. For an application
pack or to apply on-line please go to www.surrey.ac.uk/jobs
If you are unable to apply on-line please contact
Miss Stacey Michaelides on Tel: + 44 (0) 1483 686106
or email: s.michaelides@surrey.ac.uk quoting Ref: 7243.
Closing date: 30 October 2009.
